Lemon Tree được Peter Freudenthaler (thành viên của nhóm Fool's Garden) sáng tác vào một buổi chiều Chủ nhật mùa Thu năm 1994. Lúc ấy anh vẫn đang ở trong phòng ngồi đợi bạn gái đến. Nhưng cô gái đã trễ hẹn và Freudenthaler bắt đầu nóng ruột. Sẵn có cây đàn piano trong phòng Freudenthaler ngồi vào và tung tẩy.

Thế rồi cảm hứng bất chợt ùa đến và chỉ trong 15 phút toàn bộ giai điệu của "Lemon Tree" đã được Freudenthaler sáng tác xong. Đó là một giai điệu vui tươi, hào hứng và đầy sảng khoái. Sau đó, Freudenthaler đã lắp thêm phần ca từ để nói về cây chanh, một biểu tượng tự dưng ập đến trong đầu anh, và tiếp đến anh cùng tay guitar của nhóm, Volker Hinkel, hoàn thành bài hát.
